Lotic.ai

Lotic.ai is a mental health app focused on using data, AI and storytelling to give people better habits and a healthier mind. I was comissioned to animate on top of interstitial videos within the app, a narriative audio vizualiser, and to design and animate social media marketing campaigns focused around small educational mental health stories. Their aesthetic is focused on water, with lots of blues, cool colors, gradients, texture and wavy forms, to create a soothing ambience and an app that felt a bit different aesthetically from other apps.


A compilation of the in-video animation I did for the interstitials within the app. They wanted to bring in the gradients, noise and colors of Lotic’s collage illustrations to their videos, without overwhelming the video itself.
 My goal was to enhance the storytelling with these visuals, highlighting a feeling or specific moment. We played with different types of animation, and settled on using lots of “gradient ribbons,” lines, bubbles, and occasional collage, to tie back to Lotic’s house illustration style. We wanted the movements to be quick but also smooth and organic.

I wanted to create something visually interesting to look at while listening, but that could transport the viewer somewhere a bit meditative, which is why I focused on creating these wave forms (referencing Lotic’s water visuals) and using the gradient to create a soothing, slowly changing pattern to follow.
 It also allowed us to quickly create 24 distinct vizualisers
 just by playing with different colors.


Social Media Campaigns

I worked with the marketing manager to create four distinct campaigns, with different types of messaging, 
but all creating educational content on how to manage mental health issues that come up. 
These were mainly aimed for instagram reels to increase visibility and reach of the brand.


Fearless Friday: A social media campaign designed around stories of overcoming mental obstacles. I designed this campaign to have more geometrical shapes to represent the “toughness” of the obstacles to overcome, and the soothing wavy shapes coming up to soften the edges.



How To:  The social media manager wanted this series to be instructional and soothing, but to make the animation quick enough so they would have to rewatch the reel again. I worked on bringing in those wave forms with gradients again to tie back to the app, and wanted the idea to be like you were swimming up through dark water to reach the surface of peace.


Rewrite Your Story: This idea was about rewriting negative thoughts, so it made sense to have the type animating on like someone is typing, then backspacing away the negative story and replacing it with a positive one.


Say Goodbye to Harmful Stories: The idea of this was to “wipe away” harmful stories and let go of them, so I wanted to have the first slide quite dark as the negative thought repeats, then wipes away and reveals the brighter, calmer state.
